What Is A Timing / Cam Belt?
Fuel is added and exhaust gases are emitted from your cylinders through valves that are controlled by the camshaft. Critical to the smooth running of your engine, this process needs to be precisely synchronised with the rise and fall of your pistons – which turn the crankshaft.
To achieve this, the crankshaft is connected to the camshaft by, the appropriately named, timing belt – also known as the cam belt.
Some makes and models use a chain rather than a belt.
