What Car Service Do I Need?

As you can imagine, service schedules vary between manufacturers and between particular production models. Choosing the correct car service is also dependent on the way you use your car. For car servicing that usually gets a stamp in your service log there are three primary types:

Interim Service

Usually every 6000 miles or 6 months, whichever is sooner. Designed for the high mileage car user or when the manufacturer recommends more frequent servicing, this type of service also benefits those cars used frequently for short urban trips or commutes.

A range of checks are made on the fundamental systems to ensure safe and efficient running between full services. Essential fluids are topped up as necessary and the oil and filter are changed.

Full Service

Sometimes referred to as the Annual Service, this is usually performed every 10,000 – 12,000 miles or every 12 months, whichever is sooner. This is a comprehensive set of checks, adjustments and general maintenance to ensure trouble free motoring.

At Smithy Garage, we enhance the manufacturers recommended service schedule using our knowledge and experience of your particular model. Factors we take into account include: age, condition of your car and known potential issues.

Major Service

Usually every 20,000 – 24,000 miles or every 24 months, whichever is sooner. Again a comprehensive set of checks is performed, while also renewing those components the manufacturer recommends for replacement every 2 years. Dependent on your particular model, these items could include: brake fluid, spark plugs, fuel filter and pollen filter.
